SETSA Trainee Presentations and Prizes

Most SETSA meetings include oral (and sometimes poster) trainee prize presentations. Submissions are welcome according to the following Rules and should be sent to the organiser of the meeting by the deadline.

Trainee Prize Presentation Rules

SOUTH EAST THAMES SOCIETY OF ANAESTHETISTS

JUNIOR ANAESTHETISTS ORAL PRESENTATION COMPETITION
INSTRUCTION TO CANDIDATES

1. The above competitions are conducted by the South East Thames Society of Anaesthetists (SETSA).

2. Junior anaesthetists, foundation doctors and medical students in the SETSA region are invited to participate in this competition.

3. The candidates should choose a title in areas such as audit, survey, research, case report or innovation in anaesthesia. The organiser, who hosts each SETSA meeting, will invite applications for this competition. The candidates who wish to participate must send an abstract to the course organizer five weeks before the meeting.

4. The work described in the abstract must be based on work performed primarily by the candidate and the approval of the local ethics committee should be sought as necessary.

5. The abstract should state the title, authors, institution, purpose or aim of the study or investigation, method, results and principal conclusions with no more than 3 references. The text and a maximum of one figure or table should fit onto one side of an A4 page.

6. The submissions should be made electronically to the course organiser. 6 abstracts will be selected for presentation at the SETSA meeting and the successful authors contacted.

7. Each candidate will have 10 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for discussion. During the discussion only the candidate will be expected to answer any questions from the audience.

8. Two judges will be nominated by the SETSA committee to select the best 3 presentations on the basis of: merit and relevance of the study; presentation skill; visual aids and response to questions during discussion.

9. On the basis of the ranking £250, £150 and £100 will be awarded.

10. All short listed candidates will receive a certificate from the SETSA.
